[Motions to the no small shortage of seating he has on the first floor--by the table, by the island, the couches around him... hell Bucky is tiny enough he could sit on the billiards table.]
Cisco isn't sure if the Network is compromised, and while I don't necessarily think it is, I'd rather not take any chances.
Consider yourself lucky. I don't like many people in my home.
[M's quiet for a moment after that, trying to think of what exactly to say.]
Look, I'm not the person who can tell you whether or not to kill someone you think deserves it. Clearly, I'm the last person you want giving you that advice. I will tell you that killing someone is a lot easier than you think. And that should you go down that road, there are absolutely people that need to die.
But... [And he honestly can't believe he's saying this here.]
You can choose the moral high ground and not feel guilty over it. You realize some people have to die, that's more than most people. Besides, the fact you can think that and you still hold back is a pretty telling sign you already know what you want to do, and not because The Bat said so.
I'll let you in on a little secret--I kill people so people like you don't have to. Not everyone needs to get their hands dirty, Dick.
What's the story on the US end of things? They have to have said something official by now.
I dunno, that was before I got here. That sounds like it's worth looking into, though.
Oh yeah. I don't even know if they speak English, other than one guy who told us what was happening and then refused to repeat himself or answer questions.
Smart. [ He does take a seat, and yes he actually does go for the billiard table. Why go conventional? Bucky is anything but. ] Gee, I feel so honored!
Thank you for your honesty. Really. I can't talk to most of my friends about it, obviously, or Bucky, obviously, and I've just been running into dead end after dead end...
It means a lot that you're having an actual discussion with me. It's all well and good to be told what to think and how to behave, but the older I get, the more I want to understand where someone's coming from, you know? Even if I end up disagreeing with their actions, I want to understand.
[M clears his throat, then gives Cisco his best L.Chases impression:]
Attention all imPorts,
We are now in a state of national emergency. As of January 20th, the USSR has officially declared war on the United States, effectively endangering not only the people of America, but the world as a whole. In this time of need there is a strong chance we may have to call upon you, imPorts, to do your duty in protecting your own.
As a part of this declaration of war, the USSR has abducted approximately fifty imPorts, a number which may yet continue to grow. We do not yet know how this was accomplished, but you have our word that our intelligence is active and ready to uncover what form of technology could abduct you from afar.
We are currently in talks with foreign aid and the UN. Retaliation is a risky prospect, but I assure you, we will retaliate. That time draws near, and when it does, we will be asking for your assistance.
Until then, stay aware, alert, and cautious, imPorts. We cannot afford to lose any more of you, and more importantly, your fellows cannot afford it.
[A cough, and his voice goes back to normal.]
And then all hell broke loose.
Since then there have been... 4 posts urging everyone to not blow Russia to kingdom come, to remain calm, wait for further instructions, and to pool our resources.
I'll tell you right now you're not going to agree with me, but since you asked... I think everyone's thinking too small. Everyone and their grandmother is sharpening their pitchforks and prettying their torches to get the missing imPorts back.
No one's thinking about what the Soviets are planning to do next. They aren't stopping at kidnapping Dick, Cisco, and the others. They have plans for the rest of us, and most likely this whole damn country. I might not give a flying fuck about this government and its plans, but the people that live here deserve better.
I want to let everyone else focus on the missing imPorts, and I'll try to make sure we won't be blindsided when they make their next move.
[M gives a small nod when Dick thanks him. Even after all that, he's still not sure what he's being thanked for. Do normal people not actually talk to each other? To their kids?]
As far as I'm concerned, there's too much bullshit in the world. As long as you're talking to me, I'll give it to you straight.
[ M's impersonation is enough to make him crack a small smile, even though the words are certainly serious. He doesn't know anything about Chases, but M's impression paints an interesting enough image. ]
Well, that's definitely official.
So, uh, how many people do want to just try and blow Russia up? That's not actually happening, right? Because, I mean, they've got plenty of hostages. They don't seem like they want to hurt us, but that could change real fast.

Asset network, day #whatever of We All Live In A Russian Submarine
[ Cisco's jammed into a corner of the cell, trying to stay as far away from the stinking closet of a bathroom, and from whatever commotion people are causing at the guards this time. He's beyond exhausted, physically, but the problem with being as smart as Cisco, but with nothing to do, is that his brain never shuts up. Which means staying focused on getting his nanites to stably connect to the network, something he's still not practiced at anyway, is hard.
Luckily, he's got another way to talk to someone other than his cellmates. ]
